C-Smash VRS New Dimension is coming to BitSummit Drift – before bringing hybrid online play to PS5 and PS VR2 on 26 / 09 / 2024
RapidEyeMovers will offer the first ever public demo of its hotly anticipated PS5 game ‘C-Smash VRS New Dimension’ at BitSummit Drift 2024 [Booth E-05].
Built on top of its PS VR2 predecessor, C-Smash VRS New Dimension comes to PlayStation 5 as a 3rd person futuristic sports action title, with tons of new gameplay mechanics, animations and visual upgrades, as well as revolutionary hybrid online play between PS5 and PS VR2 players.
Players will be able to choose how they want to play the game – whether it’s from the comfort of their couch, handheld on PlayStation Portal, or fully immersed in PS VR2 – and play across screens and headsets: PS5 vs PS5, PS5 vs PS VR2 or PS VR2 vs PS VR2.
First released as a PlayStation VR2 launch window title, followed by Meta Quest and Pico in April 2024, C-Smash VRS has continued expanding at an astonishing pace, with new updates and additions, including the brand-new, mega popular ‘Time Attack’ mode.
Developed by Wolf & Wood and produced by RapidEyeMovers, C-Smash VRS New Dimension will be a free PS5 upgrade for all PSVR2 owners to the PlayStation 5 game. New PS5 owners of C-Smash VRS New Dimension will receive the PSVR2 version for free, as well.
“I’m excited to be returning to Kyoto,” says RapidEyeMovers Director Jörg Tittel. “It feels like a homecoming. We first reimagined SEGA’s Dreamcast and arcade classic Cosmic Smash for VR and versus gameplay and showcased it at BitSummit 2023. Now we’re returning to the game’s roots and native Japan. I look forward to making our labour of love available to millions of PS5 players in late summer.”
“It is exciting to know our first big, preview of C-Smash VRS New Dimension is going to give players a sample of what we have been working on,” says Ryan Bousfield, Creative Director at Wolf & Wood, “I hope New Dimension will invoke the feeling and pure playability of the original Cosmic Smash and other similar games from that era.”
Combining a low-gravity form of squash with timed block-breaking challenges, C-Smash VRS New Dimension brings together the very best of racket sports and timeless action puzzle gameplay. Dashing, jumping, and diving from one side to the other, players perform intense shots and power smashes in intense levels across time and space, accompanied by amazing music.
Players can either play alone or forge a cosmic connection with a friend, exploring a variety of online versus modes including Journey, Infinity mode, Co-Op, Time Attack and more – and, for the first time in a sports game, have VR players on PS VR2 compete with non-VR players on PS5.
Original tracks by Ken Ishii (Rez Infinite) and synth master Danalogue (front man of The Comet is Coming and Soccer 96) – as well as UNKLE – bring a pulse to the game’s striking environments.
C-Smash VRS New Dimension will release on PlayStation 5 on the 26th September 2024 as a free update to the multiple award-nominated and Digital Foundry’s VR Game of the Year, C-Smash VRS for PS VR2.
