Browser Game Platform G123 Rises: An Interview with CTW CEO on the New Wave of Anime IP Game Adaptation
Amidst fierce competition in the global gaming industry, a browser game platform dedicated to anime IP adaptations is quietly carving out a new niche. Recently, CTW Founder and CEO Ryuichi Sasaki gave an exclusive interview, sharing how the company’s platform, G123, is breathing new life into classic and popular anime IPs through the browser game format.

Browser Games: The Underestimated Bridge and Testing Ground
Sasaki pointed out that in the early days of limited smartphone hardware, browser games served as a critical bridge connecting mobile devices to complex gaming experiences. “They allowed players to enjoy connected, rich game content on low-spec devices without worrying about data consumption.”
More importantly, browser games offered developers greater creative freedom. By bypassing the review processes of traditional app stores, they became a haven for experimental gameplay and independent development. Many well-known Japanese game brands today—such as Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy and Kadokawa Games’ Kantai Collection—originated as browser games.
The G123 Platform: Focused on Anime IP Game Adaptation
CTW’s G123 platform hosts dozens of anime-adapted games, spanning a wide range from popular isekai titles like Reincarnated as a Sword and So I’m a Spider, So What? to classic and niche IPs such as Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Monster Musume, Queen’s Blade, and more. Its upcoming titles include adaptations of diverse series like Highschool of the Dead, Kakegurui, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, and, notably, The Apothecary Diaries.
“Our starting point is always respect for the original work and its fans,” Sasaki emphasized. “We are not simply ‘gamifying’ anime; we are creating experiences that feel like natural extensions of the story universe.”
Platform Operations: Connecting IP Holders, Developers, and Global Players
CTW employs a unique platform model: the company does not maintain internal development teams but instead focuses on providing the technical infrastructure, localization support, payment systems, and user experience optimization. Game content is co-created by third-party developers and IP holders.
“This division of labor allows us to scale globally while enabling developers and IP holders to focus on what they do best—creating games faithful to the original works,” Sasaki explained. The platform places particular emphasis on close collaboration with Japanese creators to ensure faithful representation of characters, stories, and the spirit of the IP.
The Core Advantage of Browser Games: Accessibility and Sustained Engagement
Sasaki believes the greatest advantage of browser games is their “accessibility”: “No downloads or high-end hardware are required; players can instantly experience the game in a browser on any device, significantly lowering the barrier to entry.”
Furthermore, the browser architecture facilitates long-term operation and content updates, fitting the narrative continuity and community interaction needs of anime IPs. “It allows fans to grow alongside the characters and stories, forming lasting emotional connections.”
Globalization and Localization Strategy
To address the global market, CTW currently focuses on English-speaking players, advancing localization through a combination of in-house experts and AI-assisted tools. “AI is a tool to improve efficiency and consistency, but the core still relies on human review and cultural insight,” Sasaki stated. “We are recruiting local experts to better serve English-speaking players.”
Addressing Industry Concerns: Long-Term Operation and AI Application
Responding to player concerns about “game shutdowns,” Sasaki said CTW adheres to a long-term service philosophy: “The browser model allows us to operate in a more efficient and sustainable way. We focus on stability, responsible operation, and transparent communication.”
Regarding the application of AI in the gaming industry, Sasaki emphasized that CTW views it as an “enabling tool, not a solution”: “We develop AI-assisted systems to support workflows like asset management, advertising operations, and localization, but creative direction, game design, and other core aspects remain led by developers and IP holders.”

Industry Ecosystem Observations: Cross-Platform Challenges for Classic IPs
Beyond the interview, industry dynamics also reflect the complexities of the browser game ecosystem. For example, Granblue Fantasy’s upcoming Steam release faces barriers to account migration due to its origins in the “social game” (Soshage) model, which relied on third-party platform accounts and payment systems. This highlights the technical, legal, and revenue-sharing challenges of cross-platform migration.
Meanwhile, several popular games are expanding their influence through cross-over events: Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is collaborating with Lycoris Recoil; Honkai: Star Rail not only launched a new version but will also see its characters “Kafka” and “Blade” added as skins in Fortnite; Zenless Zone Zero introduced a virtual idol-themed update accompanied by online live streams, showcasing new forms of IP operation.
Future Outlook: Respecting Culture, Serving Global Fans
In closing, Sasaki stated: “We are grateful for the support of fans and the trust of anime creators. As we expand globally, our commitment remains unchanged: to respect anime culture, collaborate closely with creators, and provide accessible experiences for fans worldwide to enjoy.”
In an era of intense competition between console and mobile games, browser game platforms like G123 are carving a distinct path for anime IP adaptation through lightweight, instantly accessible models, potentially offering new inspiration for the industry.
