‘Boy And The Heron’  Win Oscar In 21 Years

Master Japanese director wins his second Oscar . The last one is“Spirited Away.” in 2002.

Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki took home the Academy Award for best animated feature Sunday night for “The Boy and the Heron,” maintaining his spot as the only Asian director to ever triumph in the category. At age 83, Miyazaki is the the oldest person to win the animated feature Oscar.

Inspired by Genzaburō Yoshino’s 1937 novel How Do You Live?, The Boy and the Heron is the loosely autobiographical story of a young boy during the second world war, searching for his mother in a mysterious fantasy world; on its UK release it was described as “a mysterious and charming fantasy that circles back to Miyazaki’s classic themes of childhood pain and grief” by the Guardian’s chief film critic Peter Bradshaw.

The film also won the 81st Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film, the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Animated Film, the Annie Award for Best Picture and Best Animated Role, and the 77th British Academy Film Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
