Box Office: “Ant-Man and the Wasp” Receiving 500 million in the Opening Week

After Double Seventh Festival, the film market was slightly depressed last week. Among new films, only “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and Donnie Yen’s “Big Brother” had a high box office. The former is a unique one in Marvel’s movie, receiving 164 million on the first day, which not only easily surpasses the previous work (76.18 million), but also surpasses last year’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (135 million). It accumulated 463 million in the opening week, nearly 200 million more than the previous work and slightly surpassing “Spiderman: Heroes Return” (462.76 million). 

Among the old films, “The Meg” and “Take my brother away” played a stable role, successively overtook “The Island”, and finally stabilized in the third and fourth place in the single-day list. “The Meg” received 176 million in the third week, ranking second in the weekly list, with a cumulative total of 982 million. “The Island” received 165 million in the third week, ranking third in the weekly list. The total box office is about to surpass 1.3 billion. As a hit work adapted from domestic animation, “Take my brother away” received 138 million in the next week to, ranking fourth in the weekly list, receiving a total of 264 million in ten days.

Among the Marvel superheroes, the “Ant-Man”, “Captain America”, “Iron Man” and “Thor” are favored by a relatively small number of people. Their single-player movies are the same at the box office, receiving a stable and moderate result. However, “Ant-Man and the Wasp”, whose release in China was 2 months later than that in North America, performed very well in the opening week without stars coming to the mainland for advertisinhg. It received 164 million in the first day, not only surpassing the previous work (76.18 million), but also surpassing last year’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (135 million), second only to “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Captain America: Civil War” in the MCU series. It accumulated 463 million in the first three days of the opening week, surpassing the previous work by nearly 200 million, and slightly surpassing “Spiderman: Homecoming” (4.6276 billion).

Under the influence of “Ant-Man and the Wasp”, “Big Brother” in the same period reveived a low box office, with 34.75 million on the first day and 89.19 million in the first three days of the week, ranking fifth in the weekly list. The film was announced to be an educational film and contains a lot of action scenes of Donnie Yen yet it received little acclaim from audiences and only 12% recommending rate from Internet celebrities, which was unsatisfactory.
