BCON Austin Is About to Kick Off: A Creative and Connective Gathering for the Blender Community

The highly anticipated BCON Austin event is fast approaching. This community conference for Blender creators and enthusiasts will bring together over 200 attendees from around the world. Whether you’re a seasoned artist, a developer, or just stepping into the world of 3D, BCON Austin offers a unique experience of learning, creating, and connecting.

Event Date and Location

BCON Austin will take place in Austin, Texas, over two days. Organizers recommend that attendees keep a close eye on the official website schedule ([BCON Austin Schedule]) for the latest session and workshop updates. The venue features a large outdoor area, allowing participants to connect in the unique atmosphere of sunshine or rain (rain gear is recommended).

Event Content and Tracks

The conference revolves around the Blender ecosystem with a rich variety of content tracks:

Keynotes & Workshops: The full speaker lineup and schedule are now live. Topics range from basic operations to advanced tool development, and from artistic creation to career growth. Some workshops may be recorded for later review.

WIP Help Desk: A rare inperson help and consultation window. Open both conference days from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (3 hours total), scheduled during lunch to minimize overlap with talks.

Onsite Experts: Includes the event organizer (general Blender/3D), Jonathan Lampel (general Blender/3D), Spencer Magnusson (tool development), and Kenny Phases (general Blender/3D).

How to Get Help: Attendees can bring .blend files (on a USB drive or their own laptop), portfolios, or specific questions. Experts provide general tips, career advice, artwork feedback, and live scene troubleshooting. If there is a line, each person will receive about 10–15 minutes of focused help.

Hardware Support: Dell is providing two Blenderready machines for the Help Desk, thanks to the strong relationship and collaboration between CG Cookie and Intel. Onsite information is also available on how to get free CG Cookie training via the Intel App Pack with the purchase of participating Intel products.

Donut Wall: Generously provided by Poliigon and Andrew Price. The “price” of a donut is sharing your own donut render (digital is fine). This is a fun, lighthearted interactive segment that encourages creators to show off and connect.

Bendy Bones Yoga: A special Tuesday activity. Comfortable, movefriendly clothing is recommended. BCON encourages a relaxed dress code – no formal attire needed.

Local Multiplayer & Impromptu Exchanges: Attendees are encouraged to bring laptops or recording devices to show their Blender projects to fellow participants at any time. The large outdoor area is also available for breaks and socializing.

What to Bring

To ensure the best experience, organizers suggest bringing the following:

Notebook or notetaking tool (sketchbook, phone notes app, eink tablet, etc.) – to jot down inspiration or contact info.

Laptop and/or recording device (optional) – to showcase work or record workshops.

Rain jacket or umbrella – in case of unpredictable weather.

Your own donut render (digital is fine) – for the Donut Wall interaction.

Comfortable clothes and shoes – if attending yoga, pack something easy to move in.

A smile! – Follow the Code of Conduct, enjoy connecting, and have fun with everyone around you.

Online Interaction & Schedule Management

You can log into your account on the official website, mark favorite talks or workshops, and filter the schedule by your favorites. The official social media hashtag is #bconatx – feel free to include it in any posts to interact with fellow attendees in real time.
