April Global Mobile Game Download Rankings: Chinese Developers Deliver Stellar Overseas Performances

According to the latest statistical data from mobile analytics firm Appmagic, the global mobile game download rankings for April have been officially released. While Minecraft claimed the top spot driven by a limited Android free trial, the monthly chart also witnessed outstanding overseas performances from multiple Chinese game developers, highlighting the steadily rising global influence of Chinese casual gaming products.

It should be noted that Appmagic’s statistical scope excludes China’s fragmented domestic Android market, covering only overseas iOS and Google Play download data. The platform continuously updates monthly download and revenue rankings to track real-time global mobile game industry trends.

[Editor’s Note]: Appmagic confirmed a previous data error regarding Google Play statistics. The revised download estimate for Minecraft stands at approximately 7.5 million monthly installs, remaining slightly higher than its average monthly level. The original analysis is retained below for reference.

Overall April Download Performance

Minecraft achieved an unexpected monthly surge in downloads. Traditionally a top premium title across iOS and Android platforms, the Mojang and Microsoft sandbox game rolled out an Android-exclusive free trial in April. This special activity pushed its monthly installs sharply from the regular 4–6 million range to 25.5 million. The download boom was not limited to emerging markets; the United States ranked as the largest installation market, followed by India, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia. Microsoft has not officially announced this free trial campaign, and further official information is still pending.

Due to Minecraft’s sharp rise, long-term chart dominator Block Blast and runner-up Free Fire dropped one position each, taking second and third places respectively for the first time in months. The two games recorded stable monthly downloads of 23.9 million and 22.8 million, though Block Blast witnessed a minor decline, narrowing its lead over Free Fire.

Roblox maintained steady performance with 16.5 million April downloads. Two similar archery-themed casual games secured fourth and sixth positions: Arrows by Miniclip and Arrows Go by Learnings. Both games achieved explosive download growth, climbing 46 places and 336 places month-on-month. India served as their core market, contributing roughly one quarter of their total monthly installs.

Classic casual titles including Subway Surfers, Ludo King and Vita Mahjong slipped several rankings under the impact of newly popular games. Notably, Dream Games’ Royal Kingdom surged 20 spots month-over-month, hitting a record-high 12.1 million downloads and securing a top-ten placement.
