Animation Collabaration Between China and Korea
Rakuten Viki Boss Sam Wu Revealed ‘Yumi’s Cells: The Movie’ Release & Content Collab With China’s Bilibili
Korean animated film Yumi’s Cells: The Movie was released on streaming platform Rakuten Viki on July 19, after a theatrical run at the domestic box office in April.
In pursuit of her lifelong dream of becoming a writer, Yumi takes the bold step of quitting her job to focus on preparing for a novel contest. From the Schedule Cell meticulously planning her writing schedule to the Writer Cell tirelessly seeking inspiration and the Cheapskate Cell tightening the purse strings, every cell works diligently to support Yumi in her aspirations. Yet, as worries about the future begin to mount, Anxiety Cell looms larger, casting a shadow over Yumi’s determination. Even the Love Cell, once sweet and hopeful, turns bitter and skeptical as her relationship with Babi hits rough patches. With conflicts among the cells intensifying, the Cell Village finds itself confronting a crisis unlike any it has faced before…
The Asian-content focused Rakuten Viki has unveiled a collaboration with Chinese video site Bilibili to bring Chinese animated series Mom, I’m Sorry and Rakshasa Street seasons 1-3 to its platform.
Yumi’s Cells: The Movie was adapted from the eponymous webtoon, which originally received an enormous 3.5 billion views. The webtoon also spawned two live action drama series titled Yumi’s Cells in 2021 and 2022, which are available on Rakuten Viki. Broadcast rights to the show were sold to more than 160 territories.
