“Alita: Battle Angel” to be Screened on Crunchyroll Anime Exhibition
Produced by the 20th Century Fox, with the sci-fi master James Cameron co-screenwriter and -supervisor, “Alita: Battle Angel”, after several decades of preparations, will finally be screened in North America. Adapted from the Japanese cartoonist KISHIRO YUKITO’s “Gunnm”, the film not only aroused the appetite of fans, but also reappeared the original comics. On September 1st in North America, the director Robert Rodriguez, the producer Jon Landau and the starring actress Rosa Salazar, held a symposium at Crunchyroll to share their experiences and Behind The Scenes with fans.

Crunchyroll is an online community website in the US and around the globe that provides streaming media services of animation, comics, drama and music of East Asia. Adapted from the famous Japanese manga, the film “Alita: Battle Angel” is equally anticipated by the anime fans. The special symposium on this exhibition is also a feast for the fans. Before this live-action film, there was only one OVA animation that perfectly reproduced the comics. In the exposed trailer and tidbits, we can see that the film is faithful to the original from plot to art design. In the future, the world becomes extremely mechanized in an age of despair when the physiological structure of human body combined with the machine is not rare to see. The class society exists wherever there are human beings. In contrast to those of the superior Sky City, residents in the Iron City can only rely live on garbage. One day, the mysterious Dr. Ido found Alita with only a head left, and used machine to wake her up. Day by day, as Alita looks for her lost memories, her self-combat consciousness is gradually awakening.Eventually she became a “bounty hunter” teamed up with Dr. Ido regardless of oppositions, gradually realized her potential in battles, and embarked on an endless journey of fighting.

Originally written by James Cameron, the film went through decades of preparation and adaptations before being handed over to Robert Rodriguez with nearly a thousand pages of works. Rodriguez did not rely entirely on the understanding and sentiment of the James Cameron. Respecting the screenwriter, he added his own thoughts into the film. Cameron praises him after seeing the film and felt pleased that he had chosen the right person. Judging from the past works, Rodriguez can be called a “prodigy” director. The famous manga master Frank Miller would not let any film company adapt his most cherished “Sin City”, yet Rodriguez touched him by a sample short filmed by him, which was awarded Golden Palm Award nomination at the 58th Cannes International Film Festival.

In an age of despair, Alita abandoned the peaceful life, stuck to her own beliefs and kept fighting. What kind of heroic postures will this fighting angel present in the elaborate production of the team? Stay tuned. The film will be screened in North America on December 21.
