“Frozen 3” Releases New Production Update, Set to Return in 2027

Seven years after the release of “Frozen 2,” the long-awaited third installment of the beloved animated franchise has finally shown substantial progress. Recently, the film’s core creative team sent a clear signal via social media: this Disney animated epic, already scheduled for November 24, 2027, has now entered active production.
Disney CEO Bob Iger officially confirmed plans for “Frozen 3” in 2023. The film will be co-directed by Jennifer Lee, who co-directed the first two films, alongside Trent Correy. Recently, Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf, shared a symbolic group photo on Instagram. In the picture, he stands with directors Lee, Correy, and producer Christina Chen in front of a whiteboard covered in Olaf sketches, holding an Olaf plush toy and making a “3” hand sign. Gad captioned the post: “3rd time is always the charm ⛄️ Time to build another snowman. #frozen3.”
While Disney has not yet officially announced the start of production, the gathering of the lead actor with the core creative team undoubtedly indicates that the project has reached a critical stage. Voice recording is about to begin or has already started, laying a solid foundation for the film’s timely release. The film was previously postponed from its original date of November 25, 2026, to November 24, 2027.
This update comes several months after reports of record-breaking compensation for the lead cast. It is reported that Josh Gad, Kristen Bell (voice of Anna), and Idina Menzel (voice of Elsa) will each receive a total of $60 million for returning for “Frozen 3” and the future “Frozen 4,” setting a historical high for voice actor salaries in animated films. Jonathan Groff will also reprise his role as Kristoff.
Currently, the film’s plot remains highly confidential. Numerous fan theories are circulating: Will Prince Hans (voiced by Santino Fontana) return? Will Anna develop magical powers? Will Anna and Kristoff start a family? Will Elsa find romance? These possibilities may also extend into the fourth film.
Regardless, box office expectations for “Frozen 3” are extremely high. Its predecessors both achieved astonishing global box office results exceeding $1 billion: “Frozen” (2013) and “Frozen 2” (2019) were not only box office giants but also global cultural phenomena. After “Frozen 2” dominated the 2019 Thanksgiving season, Disney’s performance during that period has fluctuated in recent years. However, with the recent commercial successes of “Moana 2” and “Zootopia 2,” Disney Animation is poised to return to its peak.
As production “thaws,” the “Frozen” series is about to embark on a brand-new chapter. More details are expected to be revealed gradually in 2026, especially as the one-year countdown to release begins. A new magical journey has already started.
