Launching ceremony of the Cultural and Creative Industry Development Agency

The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), which was reconstituted from Creative Hong Kong under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, held a launch ceremony on June 24 and announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (mou) with three major cultural and creative brands in the Mainland to jointly witness the transformation of Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries into a new chapter.
The launch ceremony is an important milestone in the development of Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries, marking the new mission of CCIDA to create a better environment in Hong Kong and further promote the industrial development of the arts, culture and creative industries in line with the national Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan to develop Hong Kong into a centre for cultural and arts exchanges between China and the rest of the world.
Over the past 15 years, Creative Hong Kong, the predecessor of CCIDA has successfully organized or funded many projects with your support, nurturing many creators and start-up companies, who have now become the mainstay of Hong Kong’s cultural, creative and arts scene.
Creative Hong Kong’s eight creative industries continued to grow from over $38.7 billion to $63.5 billion. In his Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address, the Chief Executive announced that Creative Hong Kong would be reorganized into a CCIDA to actively promote the industrial development of the arts, culture and creative industries under the principle of industry orientation.
CCIDA will set up a new task force to proactively identify opportunities for the relevant industries outside Hong Kong, actively lead the industry to organize exhibitions and performances around the world, export Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries, expand business opportunities for the industry, and enhance Hong Kong’s international status; At the same time, CCIDA will continue to identify suitable projects with potential, promote cross-sectoral and cross-cultural arts content applications, and strengthen support for the industry in the distribution of content.
In addition, the Department will step up efforts to promote the creation and production of cultural intellectual property, promote the trading of cultural intellectual property, and explore more business and commercialization opportunities to enhance economic efficiency.
At this historic moment of a new era and a new journey, I look forward to continuing to work together with all partners to promote the prosperity and development of Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries and make Hong Kong a city full of cultural and creative vitality.
In order to promote the joint cooperation between Hong Kong brands and Mainland cultural and creative brands, CCIDA has signed memorandums of cooperation with three major cultural and creative brands in the Mainland, including the “Guobo (Beijing) Cultural Development Industry Co., LTD.” and the “Forbidden City Cultural and Creative Hong Kong Space” with Guangzhou Tiandrhene Digital Culture and Tourism Co., LTD., which were signed in Beijing on June 19. In addition to the signing ceremony of the two memorandums of cooperation recorded at the launch ceremony, the venue also signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Great Wall Cultural and Creative (Beijing) Culture Co., Ltd. on the “Great Wall Cultural and Creative”. The mou aims to promote co-operation between CCIDA and relevant Mainland cultural and creative brands in market development, promotion and exchange, with a view to encouraging Hong Kong brands to create more cultural and creative products that combine the National Museum of China, the Palace Museum, the Great Wall culture and Hong Kong characteristics.
CCIDA will strive to establish an ecosystem conducive to the development of the cultural, arts and creative industries, and promote the industrial development of the cultural, arts and creative industries. Apart from continuing to provide various support programmes,CCIDA will also set up a new task force to proactively assist the industry in developing overseas markets, and strengthen the promotion of the creation and production of intellectual property rights, so as to open up more business opportunities for the industry and enhance Hong Kong’s international standing.
