During the “DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS” panel, series creator Tetsuya Nomura and codirector Tai Yasue publicly addressed online speculation that the game might be delayedD23.
“There have been rumours online that the release could be pushed back. I want to make this clear: that will not happen,” Nomura stated. Codirector Tai Yasue reinforced confidence in development progress: “Work is going extremely smoothly; we are onehundredpercent confident we will hit our late2027 release window.”
A brandnew trailer premiered, showcasing the fullyexplorable Land of the Dead world from Pixar’s Coco. Sora wields a special Hectortheguitarthemed Keyblade paired with Día de los Muertos skullstyle face paint. Gameplay footage demonstrates riding the Keyblade like a skateboard while battling Heartless. The trailer also features Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Hades, and Quadratum, the realistic moderncity world inspired by Tokyo.
Kingdom Hearts IV will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. An exact calendar release date has not yet been revealed. Nomura added the team is already mapping out longterm plans for the franchise’s 25th and even 30thanniversary milestones.

An original animated series is officially in development for Disney+ and Disney Channel, listed as “coming soon”, with no release date announced.

Ayo Davis, President of Disney Kids & Family Entertainment, commented that the series will feel unmistakably Kingdom Hearts, while offering audiences fresh ways to experience this beloved universe through close collaboration with Nomura and Square Enix.
3. Status of Potential Theatrical Animated Feature
No Kingdom Hearts theatrical animated feature has been officially greenlit or announced.
In a postD23 interview with IGN, Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, was asked whether a theatrical Kingdom Hearts movie might materialise. Bush declined to confirm active development but offered an openended reply: “Nothing is impossible.”
His remarks signal Disney recognises the franchise’s substantial commercial value, but a theatrical feature remains only a hypothetical future option with no confirmed development timeline.
