2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference Opens in Hangzhou: A Global AI Extravaganza in the City of Smart Asian Games

The 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2025), themed “Intelligent Connectivity, Gathering Wisdom for the Future,” grandly commenced at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center on July 26. This city, renowned for successfully hosting the Asian Games, has once again brought together the world’s top forces in artificial intelligence, with participation from over 2,000 institutions across more than 60 countries and regions, jointly envisioning a new chapter of AI-driven human development.

Upgraded Legacy of Smart Asian Games
The Hangzhou Municipal Government released the “AI Legacy of the Asian Games White Paper” for the first time, announcing the civilian application of 12 technologies originally deployed during the Asian Games, including smart security checks, unmanned shuttle services, and AI sign language translation. Among them, the “Intelligent Event Management System” has been upgraded into an urban emergency command platform. -
Major Release by Zhejiang Lab
The local research institute Zhejiang Lab unveiled the world’s first “Ocean AI Large Model,” capable of predicting typhoon paths with an error margin of less than 5 kilometers. It successfully forecasted the secondary landfall of Typhoon “Yanhua” just before the conference. -
Debut of Alibaba Cloud’s Tongyi Qianwen 3.0
As a strategic partner of the conference, Alibaba Cloud introduced its multimodal large model with trillions of parameters. Its unique “Song Dynasty Cultural” module can automatically generate classical poetry and ink paintings inspired by Hangzhou’s West Lake Ten Scenes.

The conference specially established a “Digital Silk Road” exhibition zone, showcasing achievements in China-ASEAN digital economy cooperation. Local Hangzhou enterprises such as Wahaha and Geely demonstrated AI transformation cases in traditional industries, including Wahaha’s smart production line enabling customized beverage orders and bottling within one minute.
The conference will run until July 28, featuring 18 thematic forums, including “Artificial Intelligence and Traditional Cultural Preservation,” and debuting a human-machine collaborative performance of “AI + Tea Ceremony.” The Secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee stated, “Hangzhou is building a new urban identity of ‘One Conference, One Pavilion, One Park’ for AI, allowing smart technology and the charm of Jiangnan to thrive together.”
