12 Welsh Game Studios Secure £775,000 in Funding to Develop “Innovative Games and Immersive Experiences”

Creative Wales’ Games Development Fund Aims to Support Developers in Achieving “Self-Sustaining Growth”
The Welsh games industry received a significant boost as 12 local game studios have been awarded a combined £775,000 in funding from the “Games Development Fund” established by Creative Wales, the Welsh Government’s agency for the creative sectors. The fund is designed to support Welsh developers in creating “innovative games and immersive experiences” and to help them “achieve self-sustaining growth.”
The funded studios represent a wide spectrum of projects, from indie gems to AAA-scale productions, highlighting the diversity and vitality of the Welsh gaming ecosystem. The investment will be directed towards critical development phases, covering everything from concept design and prototyping to full production, empowering Welsh creative talent to turn their visionary ideas into reality.
The Head of Games at Creative Wales stated, “Wales is home to world-class game development talent, and our goal is to provide the fuel they need to get their projects off the ground. This Games Development Fund is more than just financial support; it’s a firm commitment to our homegrown creative industries. By helping studios establish themselves and achieve self-sustaining growth in this competitive sector, we are positioning Wales as a globally recognised hub for digital creativity.”
The reception from the awarded studios has been overwhelmingly positive. A representative from one funded studio shared, “This funding comes at a pivotal time. It allows us to focus on innovating core gameplay without the overwhelming commercial pressures typically faced in the early stages. The support from Creative Wales is a game-changer for us.”
This investment further solidifies Wales’ standing as a key games development hub within the UK and internationally. Following a track record of critically acclaimed titles emerging from the region, this new funding round signals that more world-class gaming experiences from Wales are on the horizon.
