Gamescom 2019 is open its doors for you! What’s new at this year’s Gamescom? What shouldn’t you miss? Here’s a list of this year’s highlights for you:

 

Central theme and trends 2019

No other medium has such a creative and passionate community as games. From cosplayers and modders to esports gamers and streamers: the massive involvement of the players makes them a fundamental part of games culture, creates new trends and and plays a vital role in driving developments in the industry. Nowhere is this more evident than at Gamescom, the largest games festival in the world. This is why Gamescom is shining a spotlight on gamers this year with ist central theme “Together we are games”.

 

Two trend themes will dominate Gamescom 2019: On the technical side, the possibility of cloud gaming is becoming increasingly important because it has the potential to revolutionise the games industry. Another trend is indie games: in recent years, more and more games have been developed by independent studios, which have earned them an important position in games culture.

More space for a pleasant Gamescom visit

We want all visitors to enjoy a relaxed Gamescom experience. You can look forward to more space this year. In addition to the expansion of the area (210,000 square meters), there will be further measures: the untangeling of visitor hotspots, the broadening of the corridors and additional catering and lounge areas. There will also be a new evening ticket which allows to visit Gamescom from 4 pm to 8 pm.

NEW: Gamescom: Opening Night Live

Gamescom: Opening Night Live is THE new live event in the games industry. A spectacular mix of presentations of world premieres and announcements of exciting novelties awaits you. The first Gamescom: Opening Night Live will air live on Monday, 19 August, 8 p.m. CEST (2 p.m. EDT, 11 a.m. PDT) in front of 1,500 fans at Gamescom and will be streamed all over the world via Gamescom now. Geoff Keighley, host and producer of the “The Game Awards”, will moderate Gamescom: Opening Night Live . Among others, he will welcome game developer Hideo Kojima who will provide exclusive previews of Death Stranding! In addition, the following publishers will present new products: 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Bungie, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Google Stadia, Koch Media/Deep Silver, Private Division, Sega, Square Enix, Sony Interactive Entertainment, THQ Nordic GmbH, Ubisoft and Xbox Game Studios. Several independent game studios will also announce their new developments.

NEW: Gamescom event arena in Hall 11.3

With the new event arena in Hall 11.3, Gamescom offers you an even bigger programme: In addition to Gamescom: Opening Night Live, various exhibitors will organise their events on the following public days – from eSports tournaments to game presentations and shows. The event-arena is open for all visitors. If you want to book one of the 1,500 seats in advance and avoid waiting times, you can buy a special event arena ticket.

NEW: Extensive programme in Hall 11.2

For the first time, fans can look forward to an extensive programme in Hall 11.2 this year: the new event area promises both entertainment and relaxation with two signing areas, the COS Cup and the RC drift games, as well as a new food court with a comfy chill out zone.

NEW: Gamescom indie village: own area for indie games

The Indie Arena Booth has been one of the highlights for many Gamescom visitors for years now. In 2019, developers of indie games will have considerably more space in the entertainment area: Take advantage of the unique opportunity to play a variety of indie games and exchange ideas with the developers afterwards – at the Gamescom indie village in Hall 10.2.
