SIGGRAPH 2018 Unveiled, Promoting Global Communication of CG and Interactive Techniques

The 45th SIGGRAPH Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques was unveiled at Vancouver Convention Center on August 12th, featuring the theme of “Generations”. This 5-day event will see works of artists and researchers worldwide, exhibiting the latest research and innovations in fields of CG, Animation, VR, Games, Digital Art, Mixed Reality and Emerging Technologies, feeding the attendees on a sensory feast. The activities of the convention cover five major areas: production and animation, research and education, arts and design, gaming and interactive, and emerging technologies. Through taking part in educational talks, meetings and panels, experience research and hands-on demos, attendees will know more about the latest research, the newest technologies and best ideas from the brightest minds on CG and interactive techniques.
IGGRAPH 2018 will immerse you in a broad array of educational and hands-on opportunities, and open the door to breakthrough technologies that will keep you on your game, including Sunday Workshops, Appy Hour, Art Gallery, Art Papers, Birds Of A Feather, Business Symposium, Computer Animation, Festival, Courses, Educator’s Forum, Emerging Technologies, Games, International Resources, Job Fair Opportunities, Keynote Session, Panels,Posters, Production Sessions, Real-Time Live, Siggraph Next, Student Volunteers, Studio, Talks, Technical Papers, Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality and so on.
VFX Pioneer Rob Bredow from Industrial Light & Magic will deliver keynote speech.Rob Bredow will share his unique understanding of how media and technological innovation can join forces to tell great stories and create groundbreaking experiences. There are 161 exhibitors from 18 countries demonstrating their works at the booths, including major companies like Google, 3dMD,4DViews,ACM Publications,Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and AWS/Thinkbox. The items on display cover 88 types of software, hardware and services.
By visiting and experiencing immersive pavilions, visitors can know about current situation and development trends of VR、AR and Mixed Reality. The pavilion contains Vrcade, demonstrating games and experience of VR、AR and Mixed Reality, as well as VR theatre as a part of Computer Animation Festival. Besides, there are demos of AR、VR and panels. Developer of “Pokemon Go”, Niantic, will demonstrate multiple-player interactive AR games while Disney Corp. will present VR short video Cycles, an experience film featuring the theme of “family”. The digital cinema will screen 25 works, including featured works from 9 countries, 5 student works and 2 short videos made by major studios.
ACM SIGGRAPH 2018 presents eight awards to recognize exceptional achievements in computer graphics and interactive techniques, including The Computer Graphics Achievement Award,The Significant New Researcher Award, The Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award,The Outstanding Service Award, The Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digital Art. Also, The awards committee compiles a list of nominated individuals and examines each carefully. ACM SIGGRAPH members are invited to nominate individuals for awards by contacting the award chairs.
