Review: Friday The 13th: Ultimate Slasher Edition – Horror on the Go!
The flawed favorite makes its way to Nintendo Switch packed with all the extra content called Friday The 13th Ultimate Slasher Edition which is quite a big name, to be honest, but how does it hold up and what does it offer? Let’s find out in our review of the Switch release of Friday The 13th: Ultimate Slasher Edition.
Friday The 13th was released back in 2017. It is essentially a survival-based videogame that featured horror legend Jason Vorhees and the iconic venus of the classic movies was released. Started as a slasher concept based game that had all the necessary funds raised from backers at Kickstarter finally ended up getting the license to make it official.
Savagely the Butcher Swings His Blade, Your Flesh And Tears!
Friday The 13th is an online multiplayer based game and you get to play to as Jason as your goal is to kill all the seven counselors trying to make it out alive or as one of the 6 other young counselors where all you have to do is to survive and all of its core gameplay is pretty much all of this.
Friday The 13th Switch
Playing as Jason firstly it allows you to choose a Jason out of the 9 movies. Each variant has his own strength and weaknesses you can choose alternate skins and his special attacks which are weapon-based and head on finishers and with there are many of his gruesome killing moves that you can unlock as you progress in the game.
In terms of gameplay, you get spine chilling powers assigned to 4 different buttons which are morphing to a selected place, sensing environment where Jason can see through walls, shift to get hands-on his prey faster and lastly rage where he (Jason) becomes even more deadly and his attacks become even stronger.
Since this is a time-based sandbox game and while it may get a little tricky to catch to those young teenagers but hear me out nothing is more satisfying than slicing, ripping apart and brutally killing those camp counselors!
Playing as counselor obviously you don’t have any superpowers and you really are on your instincts that too while you’re totally scared to death because that’s just how it is (you are being chased by Jason. DUH!) but you have a numbers game advantage so things aren’t that bad. Your sole goal now is to escape death by either getting off the area or simply beating the time limit.
Friday The 13th Switch
You can run off the camp crystal lake but isn’t a walk in the park as you need to gather around parts that your method of escaping requires or else you can always hide behind or under to pass time but that doesn’t help most of the time as Jason can sense you.
You can find weapons that can stun Jason and figure out a way to kill him too (Matches can be won by killing the slasher too) My god what tensed moments are those when playing as counselors. You can feel the true horrors of a slasher chasing you to smash your head with his bare hands. The core gameplay revolves around all of this and not much,
Apart from the multiplayer there is some single-player material present in-game too one, if you cant get in the online games you can always head in an offline game and kill a ton of AI counselors and it is fun, trust me it is but there’s a little factor that can be a turn off at some times is how downright dumb the AI can be as the teens get stuck in things, sometimes go back and forth between the same rooms or just run into Jason rest I can assure you that against its super fun to end the counselors with Jasons barbaric finishers.
Real singleplayer fun starts with the challenges. There are a total of 10 chapters with each chapter having a set of challenges for you like to kill a counselor in a specific sport or way and so on and all of these chapters have different scenarios so it’s almost like playing through 10 short stories! it’s a great time beat and some of the required tasks can take up a little time. I really hope they add in more because for a single-player lover this was pretty cool!
