Rai Com presents its MipCom online+ line-up: bestselling book based series, top-rated shows, award-winning movies, cult & classic films from Italian master directors.

Rome, October 12^th 2020 – During the Pandemic, Rai Com committed to support local productions bringing top-notch Italian titles to the international market .  Rai Com’s refined fall lineup includes top rated prime time TV series, award-winning movies, comedies, documentaries, opera and music events.

Rai’s most anticipated show of the season is the mystery-crime series Detective Ricciardi (Il Commissario Ricciardi, 6×100’). The detective’s “gift” of seeing the ghosts of killed people and hearing their last thoughts, help him to solve crimes in the beautiful frame of Naples in the 30s. The charming character is based on novels by international bestselling mystery author Maurizio De Giovanni, also author of the book The bastards of Pizzofalcone upon which the show is based.

Season 3 of The Bastards of Pizzofalcone takes us back to a Naples  pictured “like the Las Vegas that Mann used in Crime Story”, said director Carlo Carlei. The Hollywood-known director has already scored record-breaking ratings on Italian channels with many of his titles. Currently in production, the third season is expected to land on Italian TV in 2021, while Rai Com starts presales this fall.

A new title by movie directors Daniele Vicari and Emanuele Scaringi, The Alligator (L’Alligatore, 8×50), enriches the line-up with its unique mix of film noir and blues music. The series features the most famous and beloved character invented by controversial Italian novelist Massimo Carlotto. Massimo Buratti aka The Alligator, is a former prisoner and blues performer who serves as an un-conventional private detective. The protagonist, played by Matteo Martari (also seen in Close Murders), is pictured like a French noir anti-hero submerged into the underground atmosphere of illegal circles and dive blues clubs.

The dramedy show The Good Apprentice (L’Allieva, 36×50’) came out with a new season, which already scored the highest share on prime time TV in Italy this fall with 20.5% points of share and 4.5 millions viewers.  The talented Alice is no more an apprentice, she is now an ambitious forensic scientist. Overwhelmed by duties and expectations, she keeps dealing with her romantic life which is always out of control.

Thanks to the cooperation started in recent years with other players, Rai Com also takes to the market three titles in co-distribution.

The Devil’s Watch (Gli orologi del Diavolo, 8×50’ – 2020, available for distribution in EU territories except Spain) is loosely based upon the true story of writer Gianfranco Francosi. A naval mechanic contacted by the Narcos to build up boats for trafficking, ends up working undercover for the secret services.

In the medical TV series MEDICAL REPORT (Doc – Nelle tue mani, 16×50’ – 2020, available for distribution in Eastern Europe), a man who is no longer a doctor, but a patient, struggles in his daily life after having lost all the memories of the last 12 years following a head injury.

In the drama STANDING TALL (Io ti cercherò, format 8×50’– 2020, available for distribution in  Eastern Europe) an ex-cop played by Alessandro Gassman (The Bastards of Pizzofalcone) goes back to Rome to deal with the death of his only child. The case, archived as a suicide, seems to be connected to a criminal path which requires a further investigation.

Together with the successful shows, Rai Com brings to the market the internationally acclaimed biopic Hidden Away (Volevo Nascondermi, 120’ – 2020) by Giorgio Diritti, Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlinale Film Festival 2020, already sold throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America. Award-winner actor Elio Germano makes an impressionist portrait of mid-20^th-century painter Antonio Ligabue in one of the greatest acting performances in years.

The movies line-up also features two bright and entertaining comedies: Divorce in Las Vegas and A son named Erasmus. In Divorce in Las Vegas (Divorzio a Las Vegas, 100’ – 2020) Giampaolo Morelli (best known for his role as Inspector Coliandro), reunites with his wife, whom he married during a nine-hour romantic love story in Las Vegas. In A son named Erasmus (Un figlio di nome Erasmus, 103’ – 2019) four friends in their forties receive shocking news from a woman they all loved in their twenties: a child conceived with one of them, but who is the father?

A new space is dedicated to documentaries: the first is Fellini of the Spirits by Anselma Dell’Olio, a powerful and unique documentary about the great Director. It is enriched by animation and it’s disclosing the Fellini’s special approach to spiritual life.

The Performing Arts line-up of Rai Com is bringing specialized buyers two masterpieces by Giuseppe Verdi choose by two of the major opera houses in Italy: Rigoletto (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma) and the Messa da Requiem (Teatro alla Scala). A mis-en-scène with safe distance has been realized by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma to perform a unique Rigoletto. The masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi last July has been one of the few operas in the world to come back to the audience. For the first time in centuries the amazing scenario of the Circo Massimo has been transformed in an open-air theatre.

The Teatro alla Scala choose a symbolic event to come back to life through music after the lockdown. The Messa da Requiem directed by Riccardo Chailly featured Bulgarian soprano Krassimira Stoyanova. The event, dedicated to the victim of Covid-19, took place in the dramatic setting of the Milan Cathedral.The refined line-up that Rai Com is bringing to the market this fall, is enhanced by the recent acquisition of a large catalog of Italian cult films and restored classics. Such library includes masterpieces by Federico Fellini, Giuseppe Tornatore, Luchino Visconti and others which are ready to be delivered to international buyers.
