My Grandma(88)

Your grandmother tells the story. She controls the world. And she’ll do everything she can to keep you from learning the truth. The new mystery-thriller adventure Grandma(88) by German indie studio ROTxBLAU is coming to Steam later this year.
What would you do if your grandmother knew the truth about your family’s dark past — but refused to tell you?
With Grandma(88), German indie studio ROTxBLAU announces a hand-drawn mystery-thriller adventure featuring a unique player-versus-narrator mechanic, where you face off against the narrator herself — your own grandmother.
The game is coming to Steam later this year.
Official Gameplay Trailer: https://youtu.be/t-MHfpGRTy0
You play as a young granddaughter visiting her dying grandmother in search of answers about a long-buried family history. Instead, you find yourself trapped in a maze of memories, contradictions, and hidden truths.
Grandma doesn’t simply narrate the story, she creates the world itself and decides how much of the past you’re allowed to see.
Explore her memories, solve puzzles, and decide when to challenge her version of events. Every time you question her, rooms, pathways, and clues change, revealing new truths while hiding others. As you delve deeper into Grandma’s memories, it becomes increasingly clear that her inconsistencies conceal a family secret whose roots reach as far back as the Nazi era.
Why You Should Keep an Eye on Grandma(88)
Play against your own grandmother: In the game’s unique Player-vs.-Narrator mechanic, Grandma is your narrator, your opponent, and sometimes your ally. She guides you, misleads you, and constantly tries to keep you away from the truth.
Memories shape the world: Challenge Grandma’s version of the past and watch rooms, characters, and objects appear, disappear, or take on entirely new meanings.
Trust is your most valuable resource: Push too hard, and Grandma may become angry — or shut you out completely. Be too careful, and you’ll preserve your relationship but never uncover the truth.
Family horror: The horror comes from intimacy, silence, and the stories families tell to preserve, soften, or suppress their past. Grandma(88) turns repression, family myths, and inherited trauma into core gameplay mechanics.
Hand-drawn mystery thriller adventure: Featuring atmospheric pixel art, immersive sound design, psychological horror, and a nonlinear world filled with puzzles, memories, and emotionally meaningful choices.
Grandma(88) launches on Steam later this year and can be wishlisted now.

A Game About What Families (Often) Choose Not to Talk About
“The idea for Grandma(88) grew out of the questions we had about our own families—and the gaps, contradictions, and stories that often remain unspoken for decades,” says Alexander Zenker, Creative Director and co-founder of ROTxBLAU.
“We wanted to explore what happens when you listen to someone you love while gradually realizing that something isn’t right. That tension became the foundation of the game. To make sure we weren’t telling this story from our own perspective alone, we invited people to share their experiences with family secrets, silence, and suppressed memories. We’re also working closely with the Memorial for the Victims of the ‘Euthanasia’ Murders in Brandenburg an der Havel, as well as additional historical consultants, to ensure the game’s historical context is handled with care and authenticity.”
