Micron is producing faster GDDR6X modules, presumably for next-gen Nvidia GPUs
Prior to the launch of the RTX 30 series, Micron and Nvidia worked closely on GDDR6X memory to bring a speed boost to Nvidia’s graphics cards. Now, Micron has begun production of faster GDDR6X modules, seemingly in preparation for next-gen Nvidia graphics cards.
Micron revealed that 24Gb/s GDDR6X memory is currently in production, providing a boost over the 21Gb/s GDDR6X memory used in current generation graphics cards. The news comes just a couple of months before the expected launch window for next-gen Nvidia GPUs. The RTX 4090, RTX 4080, and RTX 4070 graphics cards are currently expected in the fourth quarter.
Previously, only Nvidia used Micron X-series memory. This was the case with GDDR5X, and this has been the case with GDDR6X until now. With that in mind, it’s likely that Micron is making these faster GDDR6X modules for new Nvidia graphics cards.Nvidia has not yet made any official announcements for its next generation of GeForce graphics cards.
