ITALIAN TRADE AGENCY TO BRING ITALY’S BEST AND BRIGHTEST GAME INDUSTRY TALENT TO GDC
The Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in collaboration with the Italian Interactive Digital Entertainment Association (IIDEA) today announced their return to the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco next month, leading a delegation of Italy’s premiere game development companies. Representing the best and brightest of Italy’s burgeoning game development sector, the 16 participating companies include development studios, animation houses and translation providers.
“In just a few years the local game development scene has exploded, making Italy a hub for industry talent and innovation in Europe,” said Alessandra Rainaldi, ITA’s Los Angeles-based Trade Commissioner. “GDC will be the first opportunity for many of our developers to introduce themselves to the wider industry community. We expect several years of consecutive industry growth, making now the ideal time to consider investing in Italy’s gaming sector.”
In just a few short years, the Italian video game industry has exploded thanks to the government’s introduction of tax breaks and a 25% tax credit for game developers. Now the 10th largest video game market, the local industry is expected to reach $8 billion USD in revenue by 2029.

ABOUT IIDEA
The Association was founded in the early 2000s. Our original members were mainly multinationals operating on Italian soil. Since 2011, with the establishment of several game development studios in our country, we have broadened our membership base to Italian videogames-producing companies, which nowadays represent most of our members. In 2019, we opened the Association’s gates to esports business operators, such as teams and tournament organizers.Currently, the Association is composed of over 100 members, including videogames hardware manufacturers, video games publishers, Italian game developers and esports business operators. Internationally, in 2002 IIDEA joined Video Games Europe, which is the European videogames Association located in Brussels. Since 2005 IIDEA has been a member of the Video Games Europe Board of Directors. Moreover, the Association is also a member of the PEGI Management Board, a video games age ratings system helping parents in making informed choices during the purchase of a videogame. In 2020 IIDEA joined EGDF. We are an agile, slender and results-oriented Association. Our line of work is very pragmatic and based on the constant involvement of our members in order to ensure that our action keeps abreast of the industry’s steady evolution. Our members are at the hearth of any choice or action carried out by the Association.
