I Have a Question: Yu Xin

Yu Xin: CEO of Leftpocket studio

AWN:Animation World Network

Yu Xin: Leftpocket studio mainly focuses on producing original content of high quality. Most of our core producers have experience of working abroad and we are dedicated to producing original and high-quality content that could develop in both domestic and oversea markets. Since we started this undertaking 6 years ago, we have produced plenty of TV series for Chinese Animation and participated in a great number of productions of Children Animation Serials and Films. Currently we are also dedicated to producing cartoons and liveaction Film & TV series. We are also concerned about the two-way communication and cooperation between foreign countries and China.

Yu Xin: It’s very lucky for us to meet CGGE this time, which provides a great platform for foreign creators and producers to find suitable companies to produce their works and enable domestic original works to enter the international arena. As I currently serve as a part-time disciplinary principal of the Animation Department of Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, on behalf of our school, I hope that this kind of platform can enlarge the visions of our students, promote the cooperation between schools and prepare students for their future careers before graduation.

AWN: If the platform of CGGE is able to introduce advanced animation techniques to China, would you like teachers and students of your institute to accept relevant training at our place?

Yu Xin: I believe technology is vital for our industry to keep pace with the international level. The most advanced technologies and software are a good tool for us to stay at the same level as foreign producers. However, we do lack training of cutting-edge software in this aspect. So I think if we train our teachers and students to master these software at the initial stage, our future staff of the new generation will be of higher ability and quality.

AWN: Now that there are more and more animation works coming out, how can we persuade investors with our animation works?

Yu Xin: It is truly hard. I believe creators and producers around the globe will encounter two difficulties. The first is whether your creativity and production are of supreme quality. The second is to persuade investors to invest in your works. I do not have a good method to solicit the investment, yet I could share some of my feelings and thoughts in the process of developing my own original works until it enters the international market. In the initial stage, I think all the creators should have patience and endurance, as the production is a long process that requires continuous polishing. Producers should concentrate on improving their skills and finishing their works carefully. And we need comments on our works from an open receiving market and international market. As a result, we finished our initial programme “Ai Gu Gu Lu” within a couple of years and took part in the competition of MIPTV. Fortunately, it hit the Top Six Winners globally and entered the arena of MIPTV, going on to compete with other winners. In the fierce competition that year, it won the championship as well as an Outstanding Preschool Animated Program, which presented its high professional level to the markets and investors, and lay the foundation for its further development in international markets. As a result, we progressed fast on a sound and steady track with the investments and partners flooding in. With its Season One released successively at home and abroad, we are increasing the authorization and expanding its markets. Now we have started the creation and production of its Season Two.
