GDC 2023 – largest German joint booth in the event’s history
- German joint booth at GDC to be shared by 18 exhibitors
- Market exploration trip to San Francisco and Seattle from 27 to 31 March
- ‘If we want to catch up with other top international game development locations, we must improve not only location factors like game funding, but also our location marketing.’
When the Game Developers Conference – GDC for short – takes place in San Francisco from 20 to 24 March 2023, numerous German game companies will also be a part of the action. 18 exhibitors have registered to take part in the 111-square-metre German joint booth. This makes it the largest German joint booth to ever participate in the GDC. The booth is being organised by Koelnmesse, game – the German Games Industry Association is a partner. The German joint booth is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in cooperation with the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA). In order to improve networking between the German game industry and international partners, there will also be an evening event taking place in San Francisco on 22 March: ‘A German Evening in San Francisco’, which is being organised by the BMWK and game.
Independently of the German joint booth at the GDC, the trade show will be followed by a market exploration tour of the western part of the USA from 27 to 31 March. The itinerary includes game companies in Los Angeles and Seattle. Further information is available at: https://germantech.org/geschaftsanbahnung-usa-2023-games/
‘The German game industry continues to grow, and it is also playing a greater role on the international stage. This is demonstrated not only by the increasing number of game companies, but also by growing interest in international industry events like the GDC. International networking is important for young German companies in particular if they are looking for possible partners and investors in the international arena,’ says Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – the German Games Industry Association. ‘German joint booths at international industry events like the GDC also offer outstanding opportunities for Germany to publicise its role as a game location. If we want to catch up with other top international game development locations, we must improve not only location factors like game funding, but also our location marketing. This is justifiably part of the German federal government’s games strategy, and with our major presence at the GDC we are already taking an important step – one that must be followed up on in future.’
