Czechs at Game Developers Conference 2021 in San Francisco
Representatives of the Czech Game Developers Association that connects over two dozen studios in the Czech Republic will have the opportunity to participate in the game industry’s premier professional event championing game developers and advancing their craft.
The traditional week-long event can be attended online via GDC website (https://gdconf.com/) hosting dozens of panelists, video game developers, and many others from 19th to 23rd July. GDC offers education on key game development topics, as well as several unique features throughout the week. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insights into the future of gaming, be inspired by new technologies, and discover new creative approaches.
The Czech video game industry will be represented thanks to the financial instrument supporting economic diplomacy provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic through its Agency CzechInvest based in San Francisco.
You can look forward to seeing some of the most successful Czech companies such as Bohemia Interactive (creators of ARMA series, DayZ, Vigor), Madfinger Games (studio focusing on mobile games such as Shadowgun), Beresnev Games (mobile game creators famous for Flippy Knife game). Other notable studios are Charles Games, a young start-up studio focusing on educational historic games, which will present their upcoming WWII game Svoboda 1945: Liberation – the game itself will be released this August. Last but not least, we will be offering Honestly Games, a studio founded in the previous year, with its upcoming game Lords & Villains, inspired by the famous RimWorld.
While you can meet the companies mentioned above at the Czech pavilion, we would also like to present DIVR Labs with their location-based experiences for virtual reality. The company itself already has its first VR centers in Prague and Dubai (UAE). Members of DIVR Labs will be available for meetings.
The turnover of the Czech gaming industry climbed to more than 5.3 billion Czech crowns, roughly some 250 million USD last year. The industry currently employing more than 2,000 people. Even during the pandemic year 2020, Czech companies created more than 330 new jobs and are still looking for more new and creative people to bolster their ranks. It may come as a surprise that about one-third of the current number of employees are foreigners. “The Czech gaming industry is sufficiently attractive and competitive on a global scale, which is why companies are succeeding in recruiting foreign workers, ” says Pavel Barák, director of the Czech Game Developers Association, critical partner for most Czech video game companies helping to implement projects beneficial to the Czech gaming scene through negotiations with government departments of education, industry and trade, culture, and abroad.
“Supporting our creative industries, whether it be film, animation, or gaming, is one of our main aims here in California,“ said Amb. Jaroslav Olša, Jr., Czech Consul General in Los Angeles.
And it is not being done only in the United States. The state-run CzechInvest agency “helped many Czech companies to participate in various fairs worldwide, such as German‘s Gamescom, G-Star in South Korea, Tokyo Game Show,“ noted CzechInvest´s gaming expert Markéta Mentelová.
