Boxoffice of China Animation Movie in the First Half of 2021

First half of 2021:31 animated films, with a minimum of $40,000 and a maximum of $595 million

In the first half of 2021, a total of 31 animated films were released, including 18 domestic animated films, 12 imported animated films and one Sino-US co-production. Among the 31 animated films, “Boonie Bears: the Wild Life,” an animated film with the junior audience from Huaqiang Fonte, Hengdian Pictures, Lechuang Pictures, Lianrui Pictures and Maoyan Weiying Film, ranked first with 595 million yuan. “Travel with the Wind,” an animated film co-produced by Hangzhou Minglang Film and Television, Beijing Xiaojia Culture and Hangzhou Xindingming Culture media, ranked last with 40,000 yuan.

10 animated films with box office of 100 million to 500 million yuan

In the first half of 2021, a total of 10 animated films will exceed 100 million yuan at the box office, including 3 domestic animated films (“Boonie Bears: the Wild Life,” “, “Nezha Rebirth” and “Journey to the West: The Next Demon King”); 6 imported animated films (Stand by Me Doraemon 2, Detective Conan: The Pink Bullet, Peter Rabbit 2, Hello World, Raya and The Last Dragon Tom and Jerry); There is also an animated film co-produced by China and the US, “Wishing Dragon”. All 10 animated films are for adults.

Within 595 million yuan at the box office, ” the Wild Life ” is huaqiang Font’s seventh installment in the series, which has grossed more than 3 billion yuan in total. The  “Boonie Bears” film series cumulative gross exceeds 3 billion,  “Nezha Rebirth” at the box office reached 39billion yuan

In contrast to the success of the “Bear” series, Huaqiang Fonte’s latest animated film, ” Realm of Terracotta,” did not fare so well, earning only 49.365 million yuan after seven days in theaters, even though the number of screenings has been as high as 10 percent.

“Nezha Rebirth,” an adult animated film from Chaser Light Animation, Alibaba Pictures, Bona Culture and Bilibili Pictures, took second place with 456 million yuan. Among the co-producers of Ne Zha Rebirth, The Hong Kong-listed popular play company PopMart also participated in the investment of the film, which made the joint development of animated films and derivatives more imaginative. At the same time, the figure of Douyin also appeared among the co-producers. Today, short videos become the mainstream application. How to promote the film through short video has become the focus of consideration of the film side.

” Doraemon：Stand By Me2 ” “Detective Conan: Scarlet Bullet” and “Hello World,” were imported from Japan, also earned 275 million yuan, 216 million yuan and 131 million yuan each. Both Doraemon and Conan have A wide user base, and both series have been successful at the box office. “Hello world” is behind “than a rabbit 2” animated movies.

The three American animated films, “Peter Rabbit2″ (U.S. and Australia), ” Raya and The Last Dragon ” and “Tom and Jerry” also earned 197 million yuan, 127 million yuan and 104 million yuan. Columbia Pictures’ Peter Rabbit2, the second animated film of the series, grossed $139 million worldwide, still far short of the $351 million earned by the first one. ” Raya and The Last Dragon ” was produced by Disney. “Big Hero 6” was directed by Don Hall, it grossed $133 million worldwide; Tom and Jerry, based on the classic animation IP, took in $125 million worldwide.

“Wishing Dragon” is an animated film co-produced by a Chinese and American team. It was produced by eight producers, including Yao Lai, Tencent Pictures, SONY Animation, Columbia And BaseMedia, and earned 168 million yuan at the box office. BaseMedia was later strategically invested by Sunac, and Wishing Dragon became sunac’s animated film.

Six animated films with box office of 10 to 80 million yuan

The six animated films that have earned between 10 million and 80 million yuan at the box office are “GG bond movie: The Dinosaur Diary”,   “The Octonauts：The Ring of Fire”, “Happy Little Submarine: Journey to the Center of the Earth“, “Promare”,”Snowtime” and “The Little Mermaid”. These are all for kids audience.

4 animated films with box office from 5 million to 9 million yuan

The four animated films with the boxoffice from  5 million and 9 million includes two imported Japanese animated films and two domestic animated children’s films.

Among them, ”  Okko’s Inn” and “Work cell: Cell Battle” box office for 8.928 million yuan, 7.603 million yuan; The two films are produced by well-known Japanese animation companies MAD HOUSE and Kodansha.

“The Ugly Duckling 2 ” and “Adventures in a Strange World” earned 8.246 million yuan and 5.016 million yuan. The two children’s animated films were mainly produced by Fengshangruizhi.

Five animated films that earned between 1 million yuan and 4 million yuan

The five animated films that earned between 1 million and 4 million yuan at the box office were The Three Little Pigs (3.78 million yuan), Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond (3.95 million yuan), The Magic Mouse Land (3.79 million yuan), The Academy of Oz (1.921 million yuan) and The Dinosaur Run (1.112 million yuan).

Six animated films with box office receipts ranging from 50,000 yuan to 1 million yuan

The six animated films with box office between 50,000 yuan and 1 million yuan are  “Travel with the Wind”,“ Salma’s Big Wish”, “Galaxy Baby”, “1934 Xiangjiang”,“:Space Detective” and “Stress Zero ”, which earned 40,000 yuan, 58,000 yuan, 289,000 yuan, 445,000 yuan, 457,000 yuan and 988,000 yuan respectively.
