Tencent Tops 2025 Global Publisher Rankings, Digital Content Ecosystem Gains International Recognition
According to the newly released “2025 Global Top Publishers Ranking,” Chinese tech giant Tencent has secured the top spot, emerging as the world’s most influential digital content and publishing platform. With $3.2 billion in revenue, Tencent leads the 2025 rankings, more than tripling the earnings of its closest competitor. Its flagship games, Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile, contributed 42% of its total revenue.
The next two companies in the rankings are newcomers to the top 10 and also the fastest-growing year-over-year. Century Games, publisher of Whiteout Survival and Kingshot, generated $996 million in revenue (up 112% YoY).
Funfly reported $888 million in revenue (up 90% YoY), with Last War: Survival accounting for 98% of its H1 2025 earnings.
Ranking fourth, Dream Games is projected to earn $877 million (up 28% YoY), driven primarily by Royal Match, while Scopely, publisher of Monopoly Go, took fifth place with $841 million in revenue.
The ranking, published by Xsolla, a leading international data analytics firm, evaluates publishers based on multiple dimensions, including content output, user base, technological innovation, and cross-industry influence.

Tencent: A Global Leader in Digital Ecosystems
Tencent retained its No. 1 position through its diversified presence in gaming, literature, film, music, and news aggregation, operating under a “pan-entertainment + digital reading” dual-engine model. Platforms like WeChat Reading, China Literature (Yuewen Group), Tencent News, and overseas ventures (e.g., Webnovel) continue to expand their global user base, particularly in Southeast Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Analysts attribute Tencent’s dominance to:
- End-to-End IP Development: Transforming online literature IPs into films, animations, and games, creating a closed-loop ecosystem.
- AI-Powered Innovation: Leveraging generative AI to enhance content production efficiency, including automated translation and personalized recommendations.
- Global Expansion Strategy: Partnering with overseas publishers to promote Chinese-original content worldwide.
Industry Trends: Interactive Content & Metaverse Publishing
In 2025, with the widespread adoption of VR/AR technologies, publishers are accelerating their exploration of immersive reading and metaverse storytelling. Tencent’s recently launched “Virtual Library” project, which allows users to engage in interactive story experiences through digital avatars, is seen as a benchmark for next-gen content consumption.
