Insomniac Games Joins the Sony Family of Developers

Sony has announced that the developer behind Ratchet & Clank franchise and the biggest hit of 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4, Insomniac Games is joining Sony’s lineup of its exclusive developers. Sony’s acquisition of the developer would mean that we won’t be getting any more Xbox exclusives such as the Sunset Overdrive in the future.
Sony announcing the acquisition of Insomniac Games does not come as a surprise. Insomniac Games has been working on PS exclusive games for a long time. Ratchet & Clank franchise has been a PS exclusive since PS2 and the latest title in the franchise was released on PS4. PS4 was the only platform which received only one Ratchet & Clank title. Both PS2 and PS3 received multiple titles.
Apart from Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac Games also released the amazing Resistance series on PS3. This was one of my favorite series by Insomniac Games but sadly the franchise started on PS3 and died with it. After Resistance 3, Insomniac Games never decided to release a new game in the franchise. However, with the new acquisition, we can now look forward to a new Resistance game because we will expect more PS exclusives from the developer now.
The biggest hit by Insomniac Games was the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man exclusively on PS4 last year and it was a true masterpiece in every aspect. Fans loved the game as it brought new life to the dying franchise and it was a long time since we had received a solid super-hero game. With exclusives like Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and Marvel’s Spider-Man in hand, we can look forward to more amazing titles in the future as well.
The acquisition will surely secure Insomniac Games’ status in the industry and will allow them to focus only on developing amazing games for us. Financial stability is a big thing and especially in an industry as volatile as the video game industry, it can lead to a big success or a bankruptcy filing. The case of Telltale Games is a big example for us. We wish Insomniac Games all the best for their future and we hope to see great games coming out from their studios in the future.
