BIG FESTIVAL AWARDS 2019 ANNOUNCES FINALISTS
NOMINATIONS FOR LATIN AMERICA PREMIER GAMING EXPO TO COMPETE IN JUNE
Sao Paulo, Brazil, May 29, 2019 – The largest independent games event in Latin America, Brazil Independent Games (BIG) Festival, has announced today the nominees for the 7th edition of their awards competition, the BIG Festival Awards. Among the nominees are Gris developed by Nomada Studio, Pixel Ripped 1989 from Arvore Immersive Experiences, Creeks from Amanita Design and Quantum League from NGD studios . A complete list of the finalists can be found below. The winners will be announced on June 28 during the award ceremony in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Honor and prizes will be granted to developers at this global event in recognition of their hard work and dedication to elevate the entertainment software industry.
This year, BIG Festival received 460 submissions from game developers around the world. The bulk of these were created for Windows PC; these games make up 62% of the total exhibitors. Mobile games make up the next highest portion at 29%, then VR at 8%, and finally console games at 1%. 257 Brazilian games were submitted to the BIG Festival competition, the largest amount of games among the countries participating, with the next two highest contributors being the United States and France. Three countries that had previously never submitted a game before are now participating at BIG Festival: Algeria, Hungary, and Jamaica. 108 Student titles have being submitted to the competition, an increase from the 73 that entered the competition in 2018. The number of VR games submissions has remained constant with 38 entrants.
The finalists will compete in 20 categories: Best Game, Best Brazilian Game, Best Latin American Game, Best Sound, Best Art, Best Narrative, Best Gameplay, Innovation, BIG Impact: Educational Category, BIG Impact: Social Matters Category, BIG Impact: Diversity, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Student Game, Best Extended Reality Game, Best Mobile Game, Best Game for Children, BIG Brands (Best Commissioned Game), The People’s Choice Award, the Humble BIG New Talent Award and the Nordic Game Pitch Award.

In 2018, Frostpunk, a society survival game, developed and published by 11 bit studios, won the Best Game Award in addition to the acclaim it garnered since its launch in April of that year.
BIG Festival 2019 Edition will be taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil from June 27 to June 30.
