Members of the jury for the international competition category of the 39th Tehran International Short Film Festival have been introduced. The jury of the international competition section comprises a combination of Iranian and foreign jurors including Mahmoud Kalari, Mirona Radu, Edvinas Pukšta, Tahsin Isbilen, and Sergio Gomez.

Mahmoud Kalari

Born in 1951 in Tehran, Mahmoud Kalari is a veteran cinema photographer, cinematographer, and director. He has served as the director of photography for feature films such as “The Spider”, “Bomb; A Love Story”, “Consternation”, “The Pig”, “5 PM”, etc., with awards received from various national and international festivals.

Mirona Radu

Born in 1986 in Bucharest, Mirona Radu is a filmmaker and producer with approximately 15 years of experience in the industry (production and distribution) as well as prominent international festivals. She is the founder of the O’Clock festival, and as of 2022, she has been appointed as the artistic director of ABIFF, which is the international animation films festival in Bucharest. Mirona also served as a member of the European cinema jury at Venice Film Festival, in 2020.

Edvinas Pukšta

Born in 1974 in Vilnius, Edvinas Pukšta is a programmer and member of the European film academy in Lithuania. Since the summer of 2018, he has served as an advisor to the Black Nights film festival in Tallinn. Edvinas has also regularly attended international film festivals in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, etc. as of 2001. Currently a selection committee expert in European film awards, he previously acted as a member of the jury in many festivals such as Cannes and Busan for shorts as well as feature films.

Tahsin Isbilen

Born in 1964 in Izmir, Tahsin Isbilen is a director of photography and filmmaker. He has collaborated with well-known TV channels like History Channel and ARD as a cinematographer. So far, he has served as a jury member in several national and international festivals in Greece, Turkey, and so on.

Sergio Gomez

Born in 1977 in Porto, Gomez has been serving as the programmer and coordinator of the industrial and competition section of the prestigious Vila do Conde, Portugal since 2001.

Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) is one of the most prominent and prestigious short film events all across the world and is Oscar-qualified; the 39th round of this festival presided over by Mehdi Azarpendar and held by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, heralding the motto of “Variety in Genre” with a focus on the subject of genre, consists of two competition categories of national and international cinema. With in-person participation, the festival is slated to screen more than 64 shorts including fiction, documentary, animation, and instrumental films made by directors coming from 32 countries all around the globe, beside 99 short films by Iranian filmmakers all across the country. The jury comprises members from Portugal, Turkey, Lithuania, Romania, and Iran, and the international cinema instructors’ summits will be held from October 19-24, 2022 at Mellat Cinema Complex in Tehran.
